I Was Gonna Write Coherently...But Then I Got High

Half of America now supports legalizing pot. That number exceeds the approval ratings of President Obama, the Congress, the Supreme Court, and every GOP candidate running for president.
Legalization is also at the top of the White House’s “We the People” petition site, and it isn’t even close. Next time Obama laughs off the question—and he will—I’d love to hear a White House reporter ask him if he’s aware that a higher percentage of Americans now support legalizing marijuana than think he’s doing a good job as president. (The Agitator)
Here is the video of the question he laughed at during a town hall:

Notice the reaction of the crowd in the background? Those 850,000+ marijuana arrests a year? HILARIOUS.

The mentality we see here is very telling. This is the arrogance of technocrats shining through. Those peons want to freely imbibe a substance? But don't they know it might be bad? It isn't? Well it could lead to them doing bad things? Nope, that's not true either? Well shit, we've got a pretty entrenched system here with thousands of jobs and millions of dollars. We can't just admit we were wrong. The military-industrial complex of Eisenhower and bad plotlines didn't stop evolving after the Cold War. It has grown and begun to intertwine with areas of civilian life, through law enforcement and prisons. A new piece of cutting-edge top-secret 4th-amendment-raping technology is about to make its way into local police hands. The Sup Ct already struck down the use of thermal imagery without a warrant, but this technology uses a signal similar to cell phones and given the recent lower courts actions, might even be able to cleave out it's own immunity from the same ruling on thermal imagery.
Surplus equipment has been making its way into police forces all around the country for years now, encouraged by both the War on Drugs and Terror and the War on Esoteric Immutable Facets of Humanity. Cops getting assault rifles and aerial drones, SWAT teams getting even bigger tanks and weapons. Defense contractors still need to sell their goods and have been turning to the civilian LEO world when the military isn't buying. The critical thing to remember here is he fact that every one of these items is being used IN COUNTRY against (almost always) US CITIZENS. Let that work it's way around for a bit.
That was a bad tangent. Oops.

Marijuana's acceptance is only going up. Even if it's not your thing, you can't continue to claim that it's turning everyone into violent rapists and poisoning their bodies (Funyuns are still under watch). Arguments to continue the drug war are growing more and more reliant on system justification to continue the blood and treasure being spent. It's also foolish to assume that change will come naturally. Someone at some point is going to have to grab the flag and charge.

I'm glad mushrooms are against the law, because I took them one time, and you know what happened to me? I laid in a field of green grass for four hours going, "My God! I love everything." Yeah. Now, if that isn't a hazard to our country … how are we gonna keep building nuclear weapons, you know what I mean? What's gonna happen to the arms industry when we realize that we're all one?! - Bill Hicks
